Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

TF-CBT is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents impacted by trauma and their parents or caregivers. It is a components-based treatment model that incorporates trauma-sensitive interventions with cognitive behavioral, family, and humanistic principles and techniques. TF-CBT has proved successful with children and adolescents (ages 3 to 18) who have significant emotional problems (e.g., symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder, fear, anxiety, or depression) related to traumatic life events. Internal Family Systems

IFS is a transformative tool that conceives of every human being as a system of protective and wounded inner parts led by a core Self. IFS holds that the mind is naturally multiple and that is a good thing. Just like members of a family, inner parts are forced from their valuable states into extreme roles within us. Self is in everyone. It can’t be damaged. It knows how to heal. (adapted via ifs-institute.com)

Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders

It is natural to experience some changes in feelings and mood during pregnancy, however these symptoms can become severe enough to require clinical treatment. Happily, a distinct period of neural plasticity characterizes the brains of parents during their pregnancy and postpartum period, allowing the parent to make the changes necessary in cognition and behavior to nurture their infant. In turn, this increased flexibility makes the perinatal life stage an opportune time for transformation and healing. (Barba-Müller E, Craddock S, Carmona S, Hoekzema E. Brain plasticity in pregnancy and the postpartum period: links to maternal caregiving and mental health. Arch Womens Ment Health. 2019 Apr;22(2):289-299. doi: 10.1007/s00737-018-0889-z.
